At Miami City Ballet, we believe in the transformative power of dance. This belief drives our efforts to make dance accessible to everyone in our community, ensuring that the joy of dance can be experienced by all. Our Community Engagement Programs serve approximately 15,000 individuals annually through eight distinct community programs: Ballet Bus, Explore Dance, STEAM+, Masterclasses/Workshops, Summer Dance Camps, Ballet for Young People, Touch Tours, and Impromptu: Pop-Up Performances. These programs are a testament to the power of art in our lives.

As part of the MCB Community Engagement initiative, Ballet for Young People, MCBS Pre-Professional dancers presented From Studio to Stage - A Dance Journey. The performances ranging in composition and location were held at the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach, at the Amaturo Theater in Broward County and at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center in Miami. Performances continue through May.

These interactive performances are fun and engaging and give audiences a peek inside the intricacies and discipline of the dance world. With dynamic live narration, the audience is immersed in the dance world and experiences fully costumed live performance excerpts from the Ballet’s most enchanting and renowned repertory.

The Palm Beach and Broward performances included favorites from known ballets such as Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty. The Moss Center performance was especially curated for students from the 5,000 Role Models participating schools in Miami-Dade County to showcase partnering and male solo technique. All performances included both traditional classical works as well as neo-classical repertory created by the MCBS Resident choreographer, Durante Verzola. The exuberant finale piece was performed in sneakers!

A highlight of these educational performances is inviting non-dancers to take center stage and learn some challenging partnering skills with the Pre-Professional dancers.

Prior to each performance, audiences receive educational guides with activities related to the history of ballet, the ballets performed, and the exciting world of dance. Ballet for Young People is MCB’s community commitment to eliminate barriers and provide access for all to the arts. The feedback for each performance was an overwhelming “Fantastic”!
