Macarena Giménez

Macarena Giménez, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, began her training at the Instituto Superior de Arte of Teatro Colón, under the guidance of Olga Ferri, Haichi Akamine, Sara Rzeszotko, Silvia Bazilis, and Ricardo Rivas. Thanks to Ferri’s mentorship, she was admitted to the Ballettschule Hamburg in Germany.
She began her professional career in 2008 with Iñaki Urlezaga’s Ballet Concierto, performing on international tours to Italy, Spain, Thailand, Panama, China, Egypt, Mexico, Greece, and the United States. She was promoted to Principal Dancer of the company in 2011.
In 2012, Giménez joined Ballet Estable of Teatro Colón, becoming Soloist in 2016 and Principal in 2017. Her repertoire included leading roles in Romeo and Juliet (MacMillan), The Nutcracker (Nureyev), La Bayadère (Makarova), Le Corsaire (Holmes), Coppélia (Martínez), Don Quixote (Vasiliev, Guerra, Segni), La Sylphide (Lacotte), Giselle, Swan Lake (Galizzi), Sylvia (Ashton), Cinderella (Stevenson), and The Merry Widow (Hynd). She also performed works by Forsythe (In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated), Duato (Por Vos Muero), Bigonzetti (Sinfonía Entrelazada), Nebrada (Nuestros Valses), Balanchine (Allegro Brillante), among others.
Additionally, she was invited to perform at the La Havana Ballet Festival, the International Festival in China, and Paloma Herrera’s farewell tour across Latin America.
In 2022, Giménez joined The Sarasota Ballet as a Principal Dancer, performing a wide range of repertory by Sir Frederick Ashton (Romeo & Juliet, Rhapsody, Birthday Offering, Les Patineurs, Façade, Varii Capricci, The Walk to the Paradise Garden), George Balanchine (Divertimento No. 15, The Four Temperaments, Western Symphony, Emeralds, Serenade), Jerome Robbins (In the Night, Fancy Free), Johan Kobborg (La Sylphide, Napoli), Sir David Bintley (The Spider’s Feast), Jessica Lang (A Time of Beauty), and Gemma Bond (Excursions, The Beginning).
In 2023, she was featured as a digital cover star in Pointe Magazine.
In 2024, she performed with The Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House in a program honoring Frederick Ashton.
